But my kernel is a little older than yours (2.6.30.2).

I've looked and don't see what you are missing in the configuration. 
You're paste of dmesg has ehci_hcd, but has

Warning! ehci_hcd should always be loaded before uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd.
I'm really at a loss.  Just speculating now.  Did you make 
modules_install from the kernel source?
