[lfs-dev] login issues

Here's another issue that is new for me with this build:

After creating a new user using useradd -m and creating a password for the
new user, when I try to login, I get this message:

Unable to cd to '/home/<new user>'

Yet a cd /home/<new user> works fine. I've tried with and without mounting
a volume on /home, at the system login prompt and using su. Same message.

Have any of you seen this before? Any ideas? This effectively makes my new
LFS 7.8 unusable.
