I saw this when I had LC_ALL=C on the host.  The sed test script only
sets individual LC_* variables that it thinks will affect its test (in
this case, I think that's either LC_CTYPE or LC_COLLATE), but LC_ALL
overrides all of them.  The sed scripts should just set LC_ALL instead,
but they don't...  :-)

Unsetting LC_ALL and using LANG=C instead made the tests run fine.
