Why don't you just use one of the provided workarounds?

I'm not sure if it works but you could try CC="gcc -s
-L/usr/local/wherever_libc_so_6_is_located" instead of just CC="gcc -s" in
chapter 5. But you have to link bash, tar and ls against the new libc if
you want to do without the workaround. Bash alone is not enough.
