 generic bit

 <x86 bit>
 patch ...
 ./configure --prefix=$LFS/static &&
 make LDFLAGS=-static &&
 make install


 <alpha bit>
 patch ...
 ./configure --prefix=$LFS/static &&
 make LDFLAGS=-static &&
 make install

That is the way I see it, the generic must be the most common denominator
what ever x86 is ... because if the bug is worked out then the generic
stays and the exception goes.

I don't like that... if for one example I try a never tested before thing
and I then noticed that the patch is relevant on all Big endian machine
... or patch xyz works causes troubles on this arch ... I think it is
better to see all the story and pick the one you want.
One a new platform try generic, then try alternative ways...
