gpm/tetex

I'm trying to install gpm on V2.2 and it seems to need files from
teTex. First it asked for "tex" which I found on my Debian system and
transferred it over. I tried again but now it needs "tex.fmt." teTex
is too big for me to install in order to get gpm. I may be wrong but it
seems to me from the error message that gpm needs "tex.fmt" in order to
build the docs. I don't care if I have the docs. Is there anyway I can
get around this? Maybe there is another way to get mouse support for
console? Here is the error --
