Cleaning up and adding flavor

Good morning,

Does anyone know the proper use of the config.(sub|guess) scripts
included with some of the sources? Can these scripts be used to add a
more personal touch to the LFS instead of the generic
i686-pc-linux-gnu (or whatever else people are running)? It seems to
me that only gcc and perl actually use these scripts to create install
directories based on your architecture. Can anyone confirm this? Is
there a danger of renaming these directories to something else since I
don't plan on ever having multiple instances of gcc or perl?
