You probably made a mistake in your lilo.conf file
Older LFS versions tell you to add root=$LFS to lilo.conf, but that was
a mistake. It should have been root=/dev/xxx where xxx is lfs' partition
designation. This has been fixed in 2.3.5b and older 2.3 versions.

2.2 has quit a few problems and all of them are fixed in 2.3.5b. 2.3.5b
brings it's own problems with it so 2.3.6 is about to be released (I'm
finishing it up today hopefully).
