It is not hard to make the standby current lower than the self
discharge current. There is not much point doing any better than that.

A bigger cell has a bigger self discharge current, so it will not
increase the standby time. The only way to do that is to change the
battery chemistry. Reducing the self discharge rate increases the
time required to charge, and reduces the maximum safe discharge
rate.
