Ncurses isn't even failing due to a GCC-3.1 bug or anything close to that.
GCC-3.1 has a newer C++ standard and ncurses-5.2 does not conform to that
standard, so the only reason ncurses-5.2 fails is due to a coding problem
with ncurses (which is fixed in the upcoming 5.3 release already, or
whatever version it will get).
