The Essene community's start is accepted as around 200BC.  St. John of Patmos 
didn't write his book until about 70CE.  Also, people often confuse the 
Essenes, who were Jews with the Gnostics, who were Christian.  It would also 
be a mistake to assume that just because both Jews and early Christians 
utilized the same literary form, apocaplytic, that their ideas were in any 
way shared.
