Which cron should I build?

I use Vixie cron with all of Jim Gifford's patches. It's been working
for me for many years. I still use it to this day as it provides a
syntax that I've been using for 20-something years.

I'm not sure what you mean about a "hint" for fcron, as that is
the standard cron package in the BLFS book. No hint should be
necessary. Just FBBG. :-)
