Linux 2.4.20       compiled with gcc-2.95.3
alsa-drivers 0.9.2 compiled with gcc-3.2.2
alsa-utils 0.9.2
glibc 2.3.1

Would you post your modules.conf for the ens1371 machine? Some of the 
ALSA documentation contradicts the BLFS setup for modules.conf
