Ok, played around with the configs (they helped, thanks), and I've
gotten xinetd to recognise the service correctly - rpcinfo now reports
the sgi_fam service.

However, the test program still doesn't work. I'm getting the following
messages in /var/log/sys.log

: Started working: 11 available services
: Deactivating service sgi_fam due to excessive incoming
connections. Restarting in 10 seconds.
: Activating service sgi_fam

The xinetd log (/var/log/servicelog) reports the following:

03/3/8 at 14:10:38: START: sgi_fam pid=439 from=<no address>
03/3/8 at 14:10:38: START: sgi_fam pid=440 from=<no address>

03/3/8 at 14:11:09: START: sgi_fam pid=496 from=<no address>

The first time I run the fam test program, it pauses a second or two
before failing, subsequently it fails instantly - this corresponds with
the 10 second delay the sys.log reports.

Ideas, anyone?

Simon.
