Thanks for that, I have no doubt it's a problem. What we're fighting 
here is "namespace pollution", the ncurses header files declare a bunch 
of global types and variables with very simple names, and that gets in 
the way when you want to use those names in your code.

I won't have time to get gcc-3.3.3 installed until later this week, but 
I'll do so and get this bug fixed. If anyone can produce a patch that 
fixes the problem cleanly in the meantime that would be welcome.
